The agreement

Zonal is made by an independent developer ("we", "us"). It's licensed to you under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the Standard EULA). These terms add a few points specific to Zonal. If the two ever conflict, the Standard EULA wins. By using Zonal you agree to both.

Not a medical device

Zonal is a training tool. It isn't a medical device and doesn't give medical advice. Its heart-rate zones are estimates built from the numbers you enter, and its readings come from your heart-rate monitor, which can be wrong. Don't use Zonal to diagnose, monitor or treat any health condition.

Train within your limits

Talk to a doctor before starting a new training programme, especially if you have a heart condition or any other health concern. Stop and get help if you feel pain, dizziness, faintness or shortness of breath beyond what you'd expect from the effort. You're responsible for how hard you train and for training safely, including where you put your phone and lights around a treadmill, bike or rower.

Your lights

Zonal only changes the Hue lights you choose, and only after you tap Start or test a zone. Stop puts them back how they were, and if a session is interrupted, Zonal offers to restore them the next time you open it. We work hard to make that reliable, but we can't guarantee it in every case, for example if the bridge is offline, a light is unplugged, or another app changes your lights during a session. You can always reset any light in the Philips Hue app.

Photosensitivity

Zonal never strobes or flashes your lights. Zone changes are slow fades, and the dwell rules limit how often they happen. The only deliberate pulse is the flash-to-identify you choose to trigger on a single light during setup. If you have photosensitive epilepsy or are sensitive to changing light, check with your doctor before using Zonal with lights, or use it screen-only.

Other products

Zonal works with products and services made by others, including Philips Hue lights and bridges, heart-rate monitors, and the training apps you use alongside it. They're governed by their own terms, and we're not responsible for how they work, change or become unavailable.

Using Zonal fairly

Zonal is free. Please don't misuse it or its support service, for example by sending spam or harmful content through the support form, or by trying to interfere with the service that delivers it.

Changes to Zonal

We may add, change or remove features, or stop offering Zonal. We'll try to give notice of anything that significantly affects how you use it.

Warranty and liability

To the extent the law allows, Zonal is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of it. The Standard EULA sets out the full warranty disclaimer and limits of liability. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded.

Trademarks

Philips and Hue are trademarks of Signify. Zwift, Rouvy, Peloton, TrainerRoad, Polar, Wahoo, Garmin and Strava are trademarks of their respective owners. They're named on this site and in the app only to describe what Zonal works with. Zonal is an independent app and isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any of them.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we'll update this page and its effective date. Using Zonal after a change means you accept the updated terms.
